Il est impossible, tant pour l\u2019<strong>Ordre des th\u00e9rapeutes respiratoires de l\u2019Ontario<\/strong> (OTRO), tant pour les employeurs, de fournir une orientation pr\u00e9cise pour chaque situation qu\u2019un praticien peut conna\u00eetre. Par cons\u00e9quent, il est essentiel que les th\u00e9rapeutes respiratoires exercent leur profession en respectant un <strong>cadre moral<\/strong> qui les aidera concernant la prise de d\u00e9cision. Le document <em>Engagement envers un<\/em> <em>exercice moral<\/em> de l\u2019OTRO constitue un \u00e9l\u00e9ment de base d\u2019une s\u00e9rie de documents d\u2019orientation et d\u2019appui visant \u00e0 aider les praticiens \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir aux choix qui s\u2019offrent \u00e0 eux et \u00e0 d\u00e9cider des meilleures possibilit\u00e9s offertes.<\/p>\n<p>Le \u00ab code moral \u00bb de la pratique de l\u2019exercice de la th\u00e9rapie respiratoire \u00e9tait \u00e0 l\u2019origine int\u00e9gr\u00e9 au document <strong>Normes de pratique<\/strong> de l\u2019OTRO, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9dig\u00e9 en 1996, puis r\u00e9vis\u00e9 en 2004. En 2010, un groupe de travail provenant de diff\u00e9rents milieux de travail des quatre coins de la province s\u2019est r\u00e9uni pour r\u00e9viser le document Normes de pratique. Le groupe a \u00e9galement rencontr\u00e9 un \u00e9thicien m\u00e9dical afin de s\u2019assurer que le contenu du pr\u00e9sent document soit conforme \u00e0 la documentation actuelle et aux principes et pratiques g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement reconnus. En d\u00e9cembre 2010, le document final a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9<br \/>dans le site Web de l\u2019OTRO.<\/p>\n<p>Les publications de l\u2019Ordre des th\u00e9rapeutes respiratoires de l\u2019Ontario (OTRO) contiennent des param\u00e8tres et des normes d\u2019exercice dont doivent tenir compte tous les th\u00e9rapeutes respiratoires de l\u2019Ontario lorsqu\u2019ils prodiguent des soins \u00e0 leurs patients ou clients et dans l\u2019exercice de la profession. Les publications de l\u2019OTRO sont con\u00e7ues en consultation avec les leaders de l\u2019exercice professionnel et d\u00e9crivent les attentes professionnelles actuelles. Tous les membres sont tenus de respecter ces publications de l\u2019OTRO. Les <em>lignes directrices Engagement envers l\u2019exercice moral doivent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9es en combinaison<\/em> avec la <em><strong>Loi sur les professions de la sant\u00e9 r\u00e9glement\u00e9es<\/strong><\/em> (LPSR), la <em><strong>Loi <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>sur les th\u00e9rapeutes respiratoires<\/strong><\/em> (LTR) ainsi que tous les autres \u00e9nonc\u00e9s de position, lignes directrices de pratique professionnelle et politiques de l\u2019OTRO. Ensemble, ces documents fournissent le cadre de l\u2019exercice s\u00fbr, efficace et moral de la th\u00e9rapie respiratoire. Bien qu\u2019il soit d\u00e9taill\u00e9, le pr\u00e9sent document n\u2019est pas inclusif. Le fait qu\u2019un sc\u00e9nario de pratique ne soit pas d\u00e9crit ne signifie pas qu\u2019il n\u2019y a aucune attente ni responsabilit\u00e9 \u00e0 son \u00e9gard. Les valeurs sont les aspects intangibles et fondamentaux qui comptent pour nous, tout particuli\u00e8rement dans nos relations avec les autres, des valeurs comme l\u2019honn\u00eatet\u00e9, la politesse, le respect. D\u2019autres sont particuli\u00e8rement <strong>pertinentes<\/strong> \u00e0 l\u2019exercice professionnel, comme la compassion, <strong>la transparence<\/strong> et <strong>la responsabilisation<\/strong>. La plupart des organismes de soins de sant\u00e9 dressent une liste d\u00e9taill\u00e9e des valeurs qu\u2019ils consid\u00e8rent comme les plus importantes. \u00c9tant donn\u00e9 la longue liste de valeurs qui pourraient \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9es comme importantes, l\u2019OTRO a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de ne pas pr\u00e9ciser de combinaison particuli\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Les valeurs sont tellement fondamentales qu\u2019elles n\u2019offrent pas tellement de pr\u00e9cision dans l\u2019orientation de la profession. Pour r\u00e9pondre convenablement \u00e0 ces valeurs de fa\u00e7on quotidienne, il faut les d\u00e9crire de fa\u00e7on plus concr\u00e8te. Les principes sont des guides servant \u00e0 la prise de d\u00e9cision et \u00e0 l\u2019action. Ce ne sont pas des guides pr\u00e9cis comme les r\u00e8gles, mais ils laissent la place aux capacit\u00e9s de <strong>jugement<\/strong> en se fondant sur une situation donn\u00e9e. In 2010, a working group of RTs from various practice settings across the province gathered to revise the Standards of Practice document. Working with a Medical Ethicist, they used current literature and accepted principles and practices to build this distinct guideline for ethical RT practice. The final document was published on the CRTO website in December 2010.<\/p><p>College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) publications contain practice parameters and standards that should be considered by all Ontario Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) in the care of their patients\/clients and in the practice of the profession. CRTO publications are developed in consultation with professional practice leaders and describe current professional expectations. All Members are required to abide by these CRTO publications.<i> The \u201cA Commitment to Ethical Practice\u201d guideline<\/i> is to be used in conjunction with the <b><i>Regulated Health Professions Act <\/i><\/b>(RHPA), the <b><i>Respiratory Therapy Act<\/i><\/b> (RTA) as well as all other CRTO Professional Practice Guidelines, Position Statements and Policies. Together, these documents provide a framework for achieving safe, effective, and ethical Respiratory Therapy practice. Although comprehensive, this document is not inclusive, and the failure to specifically identify a practice scenario does not negate the existence of these expectations and responsibilities. To attend appropriately to values in day-to-day practice, we need to turn them into something more usefully substantive. Principles are general guides for decision-making and action. They are not precise guides, as rules might be, but rather they leave room for <strong>judgement<\/strong> based on the specific case at hand.
